भगवद गीता अध्याय 13, क्षेत्र-क्षेत्रज्ञ विभाग योग। श्लोक 21

कार्यकरणकर्तृत्वे हेतुः प्रकृतिरुच्यते।

पुरुषः सुखदुःखानां भोक्तृत्वे हेतुरुच्यते।। 21।।

इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण साफ कहते हैं—शरीर और प्रकृति से जुड़े सारे काम, उनके पीछे असली वजह प्रकृति ही होती है। लेकिन जो आत्मा है, वही असल में इनमें मिले सुख या दुःख को महसूस करती है।

अगर भक्ति के नजरिए से सोचें, जब कोई जीव भगवान से दूर होकर सिर्फ इस दुनिया के पीछे भागता है, तो वो सुख-दुःख के जाल में फँस जाता है। लेकिन जो व्यक्ति खुद को भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का अंश मानता है और उनके आश्रय में रहता है, उसे दुनिया के बंधन छू भी नहीं पाते। वो दिव्य शांति में रम जाता है।

Kārya-kāraṇa-kartṛtve hetuḥ prakṛitir ucyate।
Puruṣaḥ sukha-duḥkhānāṁ bhoktṛtve hetur ucyate॥ 21॥

In this verse, Lord Krishna clearly states that all actions related to the body and nature are driven by nature itself. However, it is the soul that truly experiences the joys and sorrows associated with them.

From a devotional perspective, when a being turns away from God and pursues only worldly pleasures, they become entangled in the web of joys and sorrows. However, the one who considers themselves a part of Lord Krishna and lives under his protection is untouched by the worldly bonds. They are immersed in divine peace.
